Melbourne's landmarks and laneways
Chill out in the laneways and get your Melbourne visit off to the perfect start.
Rooftop dip
Splash out at W Melbourne in Flinders Lane. Every Sunday they host Sun Chaser Sundays on the WET Deck, no matter the weather. Take a refreshing dip in the pool and enjoy delicious Olmeca Altos cocktails – who doesn’t love a coconut margarita? – and seasonal snacks. Plus, DJs will be there spinning the tunes and creating the perfect ambience. Sunkissed bodies can head to a rooftop of another kind, the Rooftop at QT is perfect for sundowners. Sip creative cocktails against the backdrop of a dramatic cityscape when the sun dips low. Graze on wood-fired flatbread or fritto misto, then dance til late as DJs stoke the vibes.
Take a break
After an afternoon shopping spree, duck into these sweet wine bars for a refreshing spritz and some respite from the summer sun. Take a sidewalk seat at City Wine Shop for champagne and people watching. If you prefer a table with a view, head upstairs to Siglo, a rooftop wine bar with old-world charm, overlooking Parliament House. Wander down Little Collins Street to Bijou, it’s a boutique bottle store and bar. Drop by for a cheeky Bijou Cocktail before making a purchase.
Late-night lanes
When the evenings are warm, there’s really no reason to head home or back to the hotel early. Grab a drink and get ready to dance at Section 8, a party in a former car park. It’s lo-fi with furniture created using wooden pallets and the bar built from a shipping container. Another great outdoor spot that certainly heats up after dark is Whitehart, a container bar with plenty of outdoor space. Looking for something more intimate? The rooftop at Union Electric is tucked between red brick warehouses and serves up fine seasonal cocktails.
