Melbourne foodie scene by night

Night owls rejoice! Melbourne's laneways aren't only for street art. Hidden in their depths are restaurants, bars and venues open till late.

Late-night Eating

The kitchen at Supper Inn, a no-fuss diner in the city, pumps out Cantonese classics until 2.30am every night (you’re likely to be seated at a table near the chorus from a nearby theatre production or hospo staff who have just knocked off after the witching hour!). Nothing tastes better after a few drinks than a slice at Pizza Pizza Pizza, where the good stuff is served up until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. If you’re hankering for a sweet finish to the evening, take your pick from delectable cakes, pastries and desserts at Brunetti Oro on Flinders Lane.

Late-night Cocktails

Tuck yourself into one of the banquettes at cosy Beneath Driver Lane before perusing the cocktail menu at this hidden spot. The list changes seasonally, but expect martinis chilled using liquid nitrogen, whiskey flights and a choice of old-fashioneds. Inspired by the classic bars of Paris, Lily Blacks serves up a serious list of pre-Prohibition drinks and modern libations. Dress to impress at Bar Bambi, where dining, drinks and performances from singers, DJs and instrumentalists keep the upmarket party going until 3am.

Late-night Fun

Got your singing voice warmed up? At Murmur, down Warburton Lane, you’ll be putting it to good use. Order a cocktail, request your favourite tune and sing along to the resident piano players. The beats keep going till dawn at Khokolat Bar. It’s only open Friday and Saturday nights, but if you want to shake your thing to Afrobeats, RnB and hip-hop, this club in Hardware Lane is the place to be.
