As one of Hobart’s main tourist attractions, you’ve probably heard of Salamanca Market before, and if you are wondering if it’s worth the hype, trust us when we say it is. There is little you can’t find at the market which hosts over 230 stalls every week. From fresh veggies straight from the farm, to artisan goods, second-hand books, home crafted items and more. You’ll be walking away with a bag full of goodies whether you intended to or not.
You can attend the market every Saturday between 8:30am and 3pm at Salamanca Place.
If you’re after organic fruit and veggies, locally crafted wine, or something you can grow yourself, then we suggest you visit the Farm Gate Market. With the market’s philosophy being, if you can’t eat it, drink it, grow it or meet the producer, then you wouldn’t find it at the market, you can be sure you won’t be leaving empty handed, or with an empty belly.
Head to 104 Bathurst St in Hobart between 8.30am and 1pm on a Sunday to see what you can find.
This market is a little outside of Hobart City but worth the effort. Showcasing produce from local Huon Valley growers, this market offers more than just fruit and veggies. Head there on a Saturday to find a selection of meats, honeys, baked goods, condiments, jam, pickles and preserves for you take home and enjoy.
Visit the Apple Shed in Huon Valley between 10am and 2pm on a Saturday.
If variety and trinkets are more your thing, then the Hobart Showground Sunday Market has what you need. Many locals set up stalls to sell homemade gifts, baked goods, and clothing items, but it’s also a great place to hunt for second-hand treasures. Find anything from fresh produce to fishing gear, homemade jewellery, soaps and candles, toys and more.
The market is on every Sunday from 8am to 2pm at the Hobart Showgrounds.
